History

Barangay Manook derived its name f rom a street name, which also got its name from Pedro Manook who in 1752 became a Teniente and the first gobernadorcillo of Gubat. After the first World War, and during the team of Presidente Municipal Valentin Fajardo, the name of the longest streets in the poblacion were changed. Real Street become Quezon Street and Taft Strett became Manook Street. Although Manook Street lies in the barangays of Panganiban, Pinontingan, Paradijom, Luna-Candol, MAnook and Cota na Daco the name Manook refeers to thee place of Barangay Manook. Before its recognition as a barangay, it was called purok seven and its first Teniente del Barrio was Tomas Detera. In, 1967, pursuant to the provision of RA 3590, otherwise known as and Barangay Balud del Norte; and its the Revised Barrio Charter, the puroks in the poblacion of Gubat was created in to barangays. Jose Sarmiento Jr., was elected as its first Barangay Captain. Barangay Manook is located at the center of the poblacion of Gubat and its bounded on the North of Barangay Cota na Daco; on the South of Brgy. Luna Candol; on the East by Brgy. Balud del Sur and on the West by Barangay Sta. Ana. It is headed by a teniente del Barrio and at that time purok seven Manook was headed by Tomas Detera.
