History
ORIGIN OF BARANGAY SAN ROQUE
Based on the story I have gathered from one of the ancestors about the beginning of the Barangay San Roque which one of the popular barangay of Viga. This place is known as "Napo" because of the place surface. During the late 1960's and 1970's it is only a sitio of Barangay Asuncion of Viga known for its popular name "Centro".
The story of Barangay San Roque began when there were a husband and wife named Analecto Turreda and Anding Iyang who owned Saint Roche . One night they were chatting about Saint Roche to allow house to house campaign and to gain fund for the establishment of chapel where Saint Roche will put up. The husband agreed on what his wife planned. the husband and wife suggested about the plan to all the resident of Napo. The folks of the said place agreed and gathered a celebration. Everyone cooperate to make the event successful. The family of Juan Torregosa, one of the active member of the Catholic Association volunteered for the food preparation. While eating, the heaven above, were darkened for awhile and lightning began. The dog of Saint Roche suddenly have life and jumped to the area where people are eating. After a few hours, they went to the nearest parish priest to consult what to do and they understood the happenings. Saint Roche was a miracle saint. The folks of Napo believed that saint Roche has plan so they decided to call their place SAN ROQUE. A few months later, the residents ask permission to the mayor that SAN ROQUE would be considered as one of the Barangay of Viga in 1971.
