History

History of

Barangay Maycatmon derived from the root word May-Catmon. It means to say that the owned animals (carabao, hogs and others) are tied in the Catmon tree. It is the common word used by the residents when looking their owned animals. The member of the family said that the animals they are looking are tied at the Catmon tree along the bank of the creek.

There was another version that the farmers of the nearby barangays are looking for their carabaos for work are seen at May-Catmon. Because there was a big tree and said animals are resting in that place.

Catmon tree (Delliniaphilippinenses) is also considered as fruit tree, since the fruits can be eaten by the people or it can be used for cooking because it is sour in taste. The texture of this tree is good for lumber purposes and it has of good looking leaves and flowers.

In 1942 Barangay Maycatmon was a Sitio of Barangay San Antonio Milaor, and it was called as SitioComagaycay in the Municipality of Milaud Province of Ambos Camarines (Source: Land Title Honorata Albesa, 1942)

The elderly of this Sitio headed by Mr. Emilio Sato and his company initiated to become an independent Barangay from the mother Barangay (Bgy. San Antonio) with the help of the Municipal Officials and SitioComagaycay became an independent Barangay and re-named as Barrio Maycatmon.

Mr. Emilio Sato donated a parcel of lot and constructed the Social Hall. Mr Emilio Cayetano also donated a lot for the chapel. Mrs. Honorata Albesa donated a lot for the school site. The first celebration of Barangay Fiesta was on November 30, 1960.
