History

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

Catanauan Poblacion was formerly divided into four Districts: Tampus, Basyao, Doongan and Bagong Silang. Then, two years after the declaration of Martial Law, ten barangays were created in the Poblacion area or town proper. Bagong Bayan (formerly Bagong Silang) was divided into Barangay 09 and Barangay 10.

Barangay 09 Poblacion is located on the Eastern part of the town proper with the land area of 15.8577 hectares. It is bounded on the North by Barangay 10, East by Barangay Pacabit, Soutwest by Barangay 04 and South by Barangay 08.

During 1970’s, Mr. Rufo Pudaka was the Tenente del Barrio. Capt. Isidro Montances, a retired soldier became the first Barangay Captain by appointment. He was followed by “Areng” Ballesteros. Afterwards, the position of Barangay Captain was vacant for almost 3 years. Capt.Violeta Aguilar was appointed as Barangay Captain by Mayor Artemio Natividad After the Marcos regime, Mr. Gregorio Orfanel became Municipal Mayor by appointment and he appointed Mr. Jose Leonida as Barangay Captain. By year 1989, the first Barangay Election was conducted with 5 candidates, whereas the one with the highest vote would be the barangay Captain, then Mrs. Ana Pinza won the election gaining the highest vote and made her First Barangay Chairman by election. The remaining 4 candidates became the Kagawads of Barangay and to complete the vacancy, 2 additional kagawads were added by appointment, Mrs. JULIANA CABANGON AND Mr. CONRADO CATALLA.
Ana E. Pinza (March 28, 1989-October 2007). During the administration of Capt. Pinza, there were portions of barangay was vacant, low-leveled land bounded by Kangkongan and the entire barangay roads were almost unpaved. She started to develop the barangay gradually by providing the necessary barangay roads, she provided Basketball courts and a semi concrete Barangay Hall and she also started to illuminate the barangay until he finished her term. Then she was followed was by Capt. Andres C. Gonzales (December 02, 2007- June 2018) who was elected during 2007 Barangay Election. Mr. Gonzales served to the barangay for 11 years (3 Terms and 2 years extension) being barangay captain and he also served as a Barangay Kagawad under the Administration of Former Barangay Captain Ana E. Pinza before he became a Barangay Captain. During that time, development grown so fast on the entire Barangay. It became the center of Commercial and industrial activity. During his Administration, the lot wherein the entire barangay hall was placed had a question of its legality and need to find another place to permanently place the said Barangay Hall. Regarding this, He and His Kagawads decided to avail a Barangay Loan to LandBank of the Philippines by year 2008 because that was the only way for them to acquire a parcel of lot behind worth almost 1,000,000.00 from then he established the necessary facilities like Barangay Day Care Center, Barangay Health Station and a Community Center, all these were all located on the very owned parcel of lot acquired through the effort of his Administration.
Capt. Erinda Y. Abadilla (July 2018- Present), currently serving as Barangay chairman elected last May 2018 election and she was been serving in Barangay as Barangay Kagawad for almost 21 years before she aspire to lead the barangay through the help of her Kagawads.

And now, Barangay 09 is one of the fast growing Barangay in Catanauan, Quezon, being the center of Commercial Activities and Education Facilities. Barangay 09 is said to be the Center of the Municipality.
