Goal
To maintain Peace and Order and to deliver efficiency and transparency among the people of Barangay Pangpang
History
Pangpang’s history started from a river divide. Lush water from the southwest of the Sorsogon mountain range fed an area largely devoted to rice farming. Most of its original settlers toiled the soil as its livelihood.
The barangay is considered to be the one of the biggest communities of this municipality. Its land area of 932.32 hectares yields crops of many varieties. The mountain slopes produce number and other forest products. Abaca is, likewise, abundant which serve to augment farmer income. Copra is sparsely produced, but nevertheless, the livelihood of some families for many years.
Pangpang was inhabited by its early ancestors who migrated to it from the coastal areas of early Sorsogon. Native of other islands, especially from the Ilongo communities of the Visayas, braved the seas to look for places where life sustenance was abundant. These people traced their history to the ten Bornean datus who fled to our archipelago. Moving eastward from their original landfall in Pocdol of what is now Capuy, some settled in Pangpang while others moved on to the present poblacion.
Early in 1980, Pangpang’s population was merely 1,446 composed of 789 males and 687 females. Today that numbers grows to 9,067 at the last count. Majority of its inhabitants are Catholics who chose the Our Lady of Salvation as patron and object of their devotion.
Today, Pangpang is the entry of most barangays. Its strategic location three kilometers from the downtown area places it in an overwhelming position to attract growth and development.
Seven subdivisions now dot the place. A satellite market is operational and several businesses have improved the economy. Two hardwares are doing brisk business, while two radio stations provide extensive information to the community and beyond.
Community growth is always accompanied with the need to educate its people. Sensing the need, Modesto Lopez, a resident, donated a piece of land where a school building was built. Mrs. Leonor P. Flores, pioneered the first class in 1970. Miss Modesta Pancho was the head teacher during that transformation.
The shaping of the diversion road is anticipated to capitalized more economic activities in the area. Pangpang is the meeting point of the old highway leading to the town proper and the diversion road that skirts the populous area.
Most people foresee Pangpang as the next boom town within the town. We expect it to happen sooner.
