BRIEF HISTORY



Barangay Calao had been existing as “SITIO EMBARKADERO” long time ago before the certain creation of the Municipality of Prieto Diaz at the time, this place is a forested area with a few sparely distributed houses.

Means of the transportation is by the way of the sea where traders bound from Samar, Masbate, Legaspi and Tabaco Albay, take the EMBARKADERO as a landing point to lead and un-lead their trade goods.

Pili trees where among the very big and fall canopies where abound the SITIO EMBARKADERO, notably however the KALAW birds that signal the hour of ten (10) ‘o’ clock in the morning while they flock in the big number bopping from tree to tree feeding with the Pili nuts.

Because of this, in the year 1923, the Municipal Government of Prieto Diaz under the municipal President MARCELO ESTRELLADO formally initiated to change the SITIO EMBARKADERO finally to CALAO which was readily adopted.

Until now, this Barangay is officially called “BARANGAY CALAO”.
