HISTORY

According to the elders , the community which was a quiet place started before World War II. Farming and weaving were some of the industries. When World War II emerged, the atmosphere changed. Japanese soldiers build "garrison" where they burned to death the guerillas they caught. Nowadays, ruins of the "garrison" are still preserved. Religious activities were prohibited. They burned and destroyed all statues or images they found inside chapels. The only statue which survived the evil works of the Japanese soldiers was that of Mary, and the people made it their patron saint. They say that it was found on last Sunday of the month of May and the people started to celebrate this as their fiesta in honor of Nuestra Senora de Salvacion. After the war, Don Mariano Garchitorena ruled the community in 1927. He built a villa which still stands today.
